Sir Elwoodin Hiljaiset Värit - Neiti Kevät (Miss Spring)
Lyrics by Juha Lehti.
Original Finnish lyrics
lehmus tuulessa huokailee
vanhan talon puuseinää
aurinko salaa suutelee
Hän on täällä taas
kuinka sua kaipasin
täällä taas
talven yli odotin
ja täällä taas
neiti kevät on tullut kaupunkiin
Murtuu huulet kylmän talven
kaiken alkaa hän uudelleen
jostain kuulen tutun laulun
hänen tiedän taas palanneen
Hän on täällä taas
kuinka sua kaipasin
täällä taas
talven yli odotin
ja täällä taas
neiti kevät on tullut kaupunkiin
Lapset laulaa suvivirren
kuin vanhus maa huokailee
ensimmäisen leskenlehden
hauraat silmät hän aukaisee
Hän on täällä taas
kuinka sua kaipasin
täällä taas
talven yli odotin
ja täällä taas
neiti kevät on tullut takaisin
English translation
She dances in the pace of waltz
Linden whispers in the wind
An old house's wooden wall
Is kissed in secret by the sun
She's here again
Oh how I missed you
Here again
I waited over the winter
And here again
Miss Spring has come to town
Cold winter's lips crack
She begins everything anew
From somewhere I hear a familiar song
I know she's returned again
She's here again
Oh how I missed you
Here again
I waited over the winter
And here again
Miss Spring has come to town
Kids sing the Suvivirsi *
When the old land sighs
The first coltsfoot -
She opens it's frail eyes
She's here again
Oh how I missed you
Here again
I waited over the winter
And here again
Miss Spring has come to town
__________
* A hymn Finnish kids sing at a ceremony they have on their last day of spring semester before the summer break. They get their year-end report cards (of their grades), one ice cream each, sing the hymn in the ceremony with their parents and that's it, that's the typical final day.
It being a religious song that's been sung at schools vs. it being a very dear and overall harmless tradition has been a topic of public debate lately, whether we should keep it or remove it as a end-of-semester song.
