Pyhimys - Herätä mut maanantaina (Wake Me Up on Monday)

Mun pankkikortissa magneettinauha

The magnet tape of my debit card

On kulunu puhki, se on soinu niin kauan

Has been worn through, it's been playing for so long

Perussuomalaisii Virtasest Kankkuseen

Finns Party members from Virtanen to Kankkunen

Finns Party is a far-right conservative political party in Finland. Virtanen and Kankkunen are Finnish surnames, so they probably refer to certain Finnish politicians from the party.

There is a double layer on the bar: "Perus suomalaiset" translates to "basic Finns" or "regular Finns", "virta" means "power" and "kankkunen" is slang for a hangover. So the bar could also translate to "Regular Finns: from power to hangover".

Sohva ottaa taas syliinsä sammuneen

The couch embraces the passed out again

Filmi vietiin, silmist hiet

Took my film, sweat from my eyes

If you "lose your film" it means you drank so much you don't remember what happened last night. Idk what he means by "sweat from my eyes", I'll come back and add that information here if I figure it out someday.

Mä mietin onks mitään kiertävää tietä

I wonder if there's any sort of detour

He doesn't actually say "kiertotie" = "detour", he says "kiertävä tie" = "a road going around sth". Same thing, but anyway. It's probably just wordplay for the rhyme scheme.

Onks mitään mieltä siin et tää on ainoo tapa aina

Does it make any sense that this will always be the only way

Not "way" as in a road (like a detour), the double doesn't exist in Finnish.

Herätä mut maanantaina, man

Wake me up on Monday, man

Mä nukun takas arkeen arkiseen

I'll sleep back to ordinary everyday

Viikonlopun yli, nyt ku tarkkaan harkitsen

(All the way) over the weekend, now that I consider it carefully

Kuluva aika mun korvissa kohisee

Passing time rushes in my ears

Mut mä vaan nukun kunnes tää on ohitse

But I'll just sleep until this is over

Pää tyynyyn torstaina viimeistään

Head on pillow on Thursday at the latest

Miks viilettää, näin on viileempää

Why hurtle, it's cooler this way

Niil on bileet, ne kertoo niist biiseissään

They got a party, they tell about it in their songs

Mut poika nukkuu ja pääs niist kiireistään

But the boy's asleep and off that haste

Maanantaina, maanantaina

 On Monday, on Monday

Herätä mut maanantaina

 Wake me up on Monday

Koska taas on aika

 Because it's time again

Taas on aika käydä mun unteni mailla

For me to visit my dream land

En univelkaan untani lainaa

I won't loan my sleep for sleep debt

Kun herään on taas nukkumaanmenoaika

When I wake up it's bedtime again

Päätä painaa pään tyynyyn painan taas

Head feels heavy I press my head on my pillow again

Herätä mut maanantaina, man

Wake me up on Monday, man

Hahmoja vaan, kasvoja kivisii

 Merely figures, stone-faced

Ei ikinä minkään nimisii

 Never named anything

Mä nukun ohi uniani sinisii

I sleep past my blue dreams

Herätä mut uuteen alkuun

Wake me up to a new beginning

Huomaan enää vaan tunteita puuttuvii

All I notice anymore are missing feelings

Äitejä lapsiinsa suuttuvii

Moms that get angry at their kids

Miehiä pulloonsa juuttuvii

Men who get attached to their bottle

He means physically attached, stuck, like they can't get the bottle off their hand, but I like how this English phrase hints that it's obviously more of a mental/emotional attachment, that they're alcoholics. In Finnish, the double works, too, it just emphasizes how badly they are attached to the bottle.

Mä nukun kai mun ruumisarkkuun asti

 I think I'll sleep 'til I'm in a coffin

Aamulla alku on tahmee

In the morning the beginning's sticky

Figuratively sticky, like a sticky situation. "Tahmea" can mean either physically or figuratively sticky, but "tahmea alku", "a sticky beginning", is a pretty commonly used pairing of words meaning a figuratively sticky/rough start into something (in this case, the day ahead).

Aivot on pakitusvaihteella kahteen asti ainaki

Brain is on reverse until two o'clock at least

Taakat on painavii ja painolasti vaan kasvaa ja kasvaa

Loads/burdens are heavy and the (dead)weight keeps getting heavier and heavier

Paa se radio kii, en kestä sitä paskaa

Turn off that radio, I can't take that shit

(se on paskaa) tää päättyy aina niin et

(It's shit) this always ends with

Katon uutisia, vaan kevennys on uutta (se on paskaa)

Me watching the news, only the comic relief is new (it's shit)

In the 10pm tv news, they tell all the heaviest pieces of news for the day that they couldn't tell earlier in the day 'cause kids might be watching. They can be quite dready and depressing, and occasionally graphic. To cheer up the adults watching, they end the news with a positive, more comic piece of news, known as "uutiskevennys", "news lightenment".

Herätä mut taas tammikuussa

Wake me up in January again

Maanantaina, maanantaina

 On Monday, on Monday

Herätä mut maanantaina

 Wake me up on Monday

Koska taas on aika

  Because it's time again

Taas on aika käydä mun unteni mailla

For me to visit my dream land

En univelkaan untani lainaa

I won't loan my sleep for sleep debt

Kun herään on taas nukkumaanmenoaika

When I wake up it's bedtime again

Päätä painaa pään tyynyn painan taas

Head feels heavy I press my head on my pillow again

Herätä mut maanantaina, man

Wake me up on Monday, man

Maanantaina taas

 On Monday again

Ku päätä painaa taas ja

When the head feels heavy again and

Takas nukkumaan

  Back to sleep

Mennä maanantaina saan

I get to go on Monday

Silti aina vaan

And yet, time and time again

Uupunutta nukuttaa aina

The exhausted one is always sleepy

Herätä mut maanantaina

Wake me up on Monday

Herätä mut viikonlopun jälkeen

Wake me up after the weekend

Nukkuu vaan ne liskojen yöt mun puolesta kaverit

To just sleep off that delirium tremens for me, guys

Lit. "the nights of the lizards", but the official term is delirium tremens. When your body and mind are restless for the night because you've been drinking alcohol for an extended period of time and it's causing you to have sweaty, restless night and sleep badly.

Herätä mut ku sodat on päättyny

Wake me up when the wars have ended

Nukun siihen asti kunnes maailma on parempi

I shall sleep until the world is better

Mul on mahtava laveri

 My bunk is awesome

Ja se maailma on samettii

 And that world is velvet

Ja salettiin täs hulabaloossa voi ahkeraki alati vaan talvehtii

And for sure, in this hullabaloo even the hard-working ones can only hibernate continuously

Maanantaina, maanantaina

 On Monday, on Monday

Herätä mut maanantaina

 Wake me up on Monday

Koska taas on aika

  Because it's time again

Taas on aika käydä mun unteni mailla

For me to visit my dream land

En univelkaan untani lainaa

I won't loan my sleep for sleep debt

Kun herään on taas nukkumaanmenoaika

When I wake up it's bedtime again

Päätä painaa pään tyynyn painan taas

Head feels heavy I press my head on my pillow again

Herätä mut maanantaina, man

Wake me up on Monday, man

Maanantaina taas

 On Monday again

Ku päätä painaa taas ja

When the head feels heavy again and

Takas nukkumaan

 Back to sleep

Mennä maanantaina saan

I get to go on Monday

Silti aina vaan

And yet, time and time again

Uupunutta nukuttaa aina

The exhausted one is always sleepy

Herätä mut maanantaina

Wake me up on Monday
