Finnish lyrics:
Kello esillä, spittarit kiiltävät,
Statukset partaterällä viiltävät.
Bisse bisseltä, nollia lisätään,
Mikä on totta, onko totta enää mikään?
Mä olen väsynyt tieltä väistymään,
Kun tila tyhjällä me täytetään.
Puhetta, puhetta, puheen perään,
Kuka täällä oikeesti tekee mitään?
Prinsessoja ja astronautteja
Piti meistä tulla.
Mut mekko riekaleina
Laskuhumalassa.
Ei löytynyt onnee Onnelasta.
Rakkautta etsitään kuin morsian mekkoa,
Käytetään kerran ja säilötään kaapissa
Epätoivo ylläpitää mielenkiintoa,
Ota mut syliin, pitele, mut älä omista.
Ota mut syliin, pitele, mut älä omista.
Prinsessoja ja astronautteja
Piti meistä tulla.
Mut mekko riekaleina
Laskuhumalassa.
Ei löytynyt onnee Onnelasta.
Ajat vaihtuu ja viisarit liikkuu,
Iho vanhenee ja kasvot muuttuu,
Ennen syötiin lettuja,
nyt lasketaan kaloreita.
Kesä -96 polvet ruvella,
taloyhtiön hiekkalaatikolla.
Äiti liimasi laastarin kun itkin,
Sanoi "Anna mä puhallan"
"Anna mä puhallan"
"Anna mä puhallan"
Kuka puhaltaa nyt?
Kuka puhaltaa nyt?
Kuka puhaltaa nyt?
Prinsessoja ja astronautteja
Piti meistä tulla.
Mut mekko riekaleina,
Laskuhumalassa.
Ei löytynyt onnee Onnelasta.
English lyrics:
Wristwatch visible, shiny boots, * Statuses cut like razorblades. Beer after beer, adding zeros, * What is real, is anything real anymore? I'm tired of steering clear, when we fill the space with emptiness. Talk after talk after talk, Is anyone here actually doing anything? Princesses and astronauts We were supposed to become But with a torn dress Sobering out * Couldn't find happiness in Onnela * Looking for love like a bride looks for a dress, Using it once and then keeping it in a closet Desperation maintains interest, Hold me in your arms, but don't own me * Hold me in your arms, but don't own me
Princesses and astronauts
We were supposed to become
But with a torn dress
Sobering out
Couldn't find happiness in Onnela Times change and clock's hands move, skin gets old and face changes, we used to eat pancakes, now we count calories. Summer -96, knees scabbed, in the sandbox of the condomium. * Mom put a bangade on it when I cried, said "Let me blow on it" * "Let me blow on it" "Let me blow on it" Who will blow on it now? Who will blow on it now? Who will blow on it now?
Princesses and astronauts
We were supposed to become
But with a torn dress
Sobering out
Couldn't find happiness in Onnela

Notes:
Wristwatch visible, shiny boots, * -"spittarit" are some certain kinds of boots, they're described in the Finnish Wiktionary as "pointy-toed leather booties or shoes" -another translation of this song at https://www.musixmatch.com/lyrics/Sanni/Prinsessoja-astronautteja/translation/english calls them Spitfires and it makes sense - the Finnish slang word spittarit sounds exactly like it could be from the word Spitfire... but entirely different looking shoes come up if I search "spittarit" or if I search "spitfire shoes", so... I'm sticking with my "boots" Beer after beer, adding zeros, * -no idea what she means by "adding zeros"... could be percentage of alcohol in the blood? -the other translation says "adding up the bets"... whatever that means -this is probably a young-person slang thing and I'm too old to understand - even though I'm only a year older than she is Sobering out * -there's no direct translation to "laskuhumala" - it means the state where you used to be drunk but you're starting to sober up -it's a strange feeling - physically you still feel a big wobbly, you're not hungover (yet), and your brain is going through all the new memories you made when you were drunk -everything starts to seem clear and you start to realize things you didn't realize when you were still drunk, you start to question all the things that sound weird and going through the events of the evening in case you did something you should feel embarrassed about -the "party feeling" of being drunk is gone and now everything is just - blah
Couldn't find happiness in Onnela * -Onnela is a popular bar in Helsinki -the name of the bar means "A Happy Place", so there's a double meaning
Hold me in your arms, but don't own me * -she's actually saying "take me on your lap", but in English it sounds a bit dirty -it's not, it's completely innocent - she wants to be held like an adult holds a child to comfort them - to sit on their lap, and be hugged and held -"but don't own me" - she's afraid to let anyone close, even the person who comforts her in this way in the sandbox of the condomium. * -I've never seen this English word before, so I thought I'd explain -a condomium is an organization formed by the people of one or more apartment buildings, where they decide things together -every apartment building in Finland belongs to one -from this sentence we can tell that she grew up in an apartment building, that belonged to a condomium with several other apartment buildings, so it's probably a suburban area of a town - a pretty common place for a Finnish poor/middle class child to grow up in a town/city "Let me blow on it" * -Do adults in English-speaking countries blow in kid's scraped/scabbed knees? I've never seen them do that, they all seem to "kiss to make it better" -this is a similar action, just that in here, they blow on it instead of kissing it -I was thinking of leaving it as "blowing", because the next sentence "kuka puhaltaa nyt?" / "who will blow on it now?" refers to this one, and I wanted to make it obvious -somehow "who will blow on it now" sounded less wrong than "who will kiss it now", which is easier to take the wrong way..? I think the song is about how we used to be innocent children, who had high hopes and dreams of ourselves and our lives - to be princesses and astronauts - but then real life happened and now we're sad young adults, who try to cope with the harsh reality with fancy things, like the right clothes and status, and by abusing alcohol and mundane sexual/romantic relations (the reference between a bridal dress and love), just to feel something/to cope with mental pain. Something like that. I think she's one of the best Finnish songwriters of our generation.
